Problems with Apple Mail and Gmail authentication in macOS. Whatever is causing the issue for you, we’ve got the fix for it below! But there’s also a surge of new users getting the issue due to a bug in Apple’s release of macOS 10.14.4. Plenty of users experience “generic” Apple Mail authentication errors all the time. So, what exactly is going on here? Well…it could be one of two things. Google requires completing authentication in Safari After you do it, Apple Mail asks again and you’re stuck in an endless login authentication loop.Įnter the password for the account “(null)” Apple Mail keeps asking you to log in and authenticate your Google account using Safari. Ask any of the 2000+ other users who discussed the problem in this Apple thread.Įveryone has been experiencing the same problem. But recently there have been a lot more problems than usual as Gmail keeps failing to authenticate in Apple Mail.Īnd I’m not the only one this has happened to. It isn’t news to say they don’t always place nicely together. Don't have any of the above friends - apple, yes - gmail, yes - both, yes, nearby friends that can come over with all of the above - nope.Google and Apple: Two titans of technology that come together to serve up my emails. It's like my brother told me, it's a lot easier, "just click on stuff, it'll teach you everything". My experience with computers is where I am lacking, and I am really happy I chose apple. I'd like to stick with it, I'm sure that any one of my friends experienced with apple and who uses gmail could come over fix this in thirty seconds. Thanks, if you send a response tonight, I won't get it till tomorrow. You know everything, we have both done a lot of work on this. Your company thinks I find you inadequate for some reason, they have offered to put a team of other people on my case. Mike, Signing off for tonight, I am really happy with what I have learned, I went to Mail (the stamp icon on dock that brings up all of the old verizon records), and there is nothing to go to that says settings.
If I just click the stamp, all of the old messages from the verizon account come on inbox and outbox, but it won't make use of the new account information (refer to my response in what have you tried). But apple mail does have all the right info. It seems like the Apple Mail and my gmail accessed by safari don't know each other exist. If I click on the - box in the acct info page, thinking I'll just erase all the good info in the account and start it over, a dire warning comes up that all messages in the account will be wiped out, so I decided to wait to hear further from you. In other words when I tried to change the account before, it seems the machine picked up all of the correct information, but I didn't do whatever is necessary to activate.
There is a button at the bottom marked server settings, and below the column subwindow on the left boxes with + and - to add or delete accounts.

The rest of the page on the right contains a column including: Account Type: POP, Description: Google, email address:, Full name: cnb, Incoming mail server: Google, User Name: cnb.guffie, Password: *********, Outgoing mail server: google:cnb.guffie. A column shaped subpage on the left only says Google POP at the top. If I go to Mail > Preferences, a page comes up titled Accounts.
